Dave Fox Blog-Hide your Young! Soon college Coaches will recruit Kindergartners!
This week, Ricky Heimuli committed and signed to play football for the Oregon Ducks. Wow! What took him so long??? He graduates in 3 months!
Actually, Rickey did it just right in my opinion. some may disagree, but Ricky’s decision making process is what’s right with Sports. What’s wrong is this:
USC Coach Lane Kiffin has apparently offered a scholarship to a Quarterback in Delaware. David Sills responded by telling ESPN Reporter Shelley Smith “It was very cool, but my heart was beating so fast and I was scared. but after it was over, I was so excited and pumped.”
If that sounds like a quote from a little kid, it’s because it is. Sills is 13 YEARS OLD!! seriously! He’s in 7th grade! Kiffen has offered a kid who won’t be on campus until 2016! This just seems nuts! how in the world the NCAA hasn’t jumped all over this to come up with some sort of rule, really surprises me!
College Basketball Coaches perfected the art of robbing the cradle years ago, but football coaches are just catching on. according to the ESPN report, former Washington Coach Ty Willingham admitted he offered a scholarship to a high school freshman.
Frankly it blows my mind. Can you imagine a College Coach sitting in your living room trying to entice your kid, who won’t even have a driver’s license for 3 more years?
No doubt there are many parents out there, some who live vicariously through their kids, who think I’M NUTS. but come on! let the kids be kids…David Sims parents should have asked Lane to drop by is say…4 or 5 years. if he is still the Coach at USC!
